So the Burkina Faso Peace Corps group is planning a 4th of July bash. They voted to have a sheep feast, and I am sure that would please the chief who gave them that gift. I am glad our kids are going to have some much needed protein, and they are even making potato salad, which will Americanize the feast!! One of my big concerns is that Ashley will get sick from not having enough of the right foods, so I am glad they are planning a good meal. I do realize that some of the group are vegetarians, so I do hope they find another good protein source. I actually packed an 18 oz jar of Jif peanut butter into the package I sent to Ashley last week, along with some sunflower kernels and protein bars.
(And thanks to the Dad on Christine's blog site for his helpful info on sending a package.)
I cannot complain about what Ashley is eating in Africa. Her host mom does well in the kitchen, and was teaching Ashley to cook last weekend, preparing her for life on her own in a couple of months. My daughter is actually quite a good cook here at home, but I am sure things are done quite differently in Burkina Faso.
I guess Ashley's host family figured out that she was not too fond of her mayo sandwich for breakfast, so she now gets bread and butter...much improved!! She enjoys her lunch from a local cafe, usually an omelette on a baguette. Supper consists of some type of pasta with tomato sauce, and a couple of bites of meat. They do have a banana or mango for dessert.
